Our environmental commitment

At Acklands-Grainger, we view our commitment to the environment through two lenses:

First, we have a number of initiatives in place to reduce the impact of business operations on our environment. These include:

  • Energy-saving lighting solutions in our facilities including conversion from metal halide and T12 to T8, T5 and LED
  • Recycling programs in our facilities
  • Printing our catalogue on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved paper
  • Working with suppliers to provide product and services to help customers meet their individual sustainability goals
  • Our distribution centre in Caledon, ON and our branch in St. Laurent, QC are LEED certified and we have applied for LEED certification for our head office in Thornhill, ON.

Second, our sales force works with interested customers to help them make better environmental choices for their businesses. Acklands-Grainger’s assortment of environmentally preferred products are marked with a “green” designation in our industry-leading catalogue.

Serving our communities

Acklands-Grainger is a national founding partner of Ready When the Time Comes®, a disaster preparedness program administered by the Canadian Red Cross. The program prepares employees of organizations to mobilize as a community-based volunteer force when large-scale disasters strike.

The business is also actively engaged in Aboriginal development, through its work with the Canadian Council on Aboriginal Business, and supplier diversity, with its support of the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council.

Acklands-Grainger is in the early stages of developing a third pillar of its community investment efforts—focused on skilled trades development.
